Abstract: The origin and development of industrial computer networks which mark the up-date level of industrial automation are summarized, and their definition and characteristics, e.g., distributed processing and concentrated managing, diversification of communication protocol, real-time control, optimization of resources configuration and network safety etc. are presented and illustrated with examples of a new kindof destributed control system (DCS) and the famous Rockwell automation industrial network.
