Abstract: The paper addresses the channel assignment under flowing traffic load. It shows that hybrid channel assignment (HCA)scheme is particularly suitable for this traffic type and can achieve optimal performance. An optimized HCA(OHCA) scheme is proposed and the ratio of active channels and static channels is derived. The analysis indicates that the ratio is bounded by the traffic fluctuation and the quality of service (QoS) requirement. By simulation, OHCA is shown to be superior to the current fix channel assignment (FCA) and dynamic channel assignment (DCA) in terms of call blocking probabilityand spectrum utilization. OHCA can be used to handle the hot spot case, and is therefore an attractive scheme for practical systems.
