Abstract: The transient thermal effects are investigated for a tilting-pad thrust bearing undergoing rapid and slow start-up with rotation speed from 2300 r/min to 5100 r/min when load is absent. For start-up, the oil temperature and variation of mean oil film thickness increase with rotational speed. Increase of rotational speed has a disparate effect on the oil temperature.
