Abstract: Reaction of grafting copolymerization of vinyl acetate onto modified starch by heat-treatment is investigated. Production of the reaction can be proved in the infrared spectrum. Studied are the effects of the concentrations of monomer, initiator and physically modified starch, temperature of reaction on grafting efficiency and grafting. The optimal condition of reaction corresponds to a concentration of 0.63 mol/L for vinyl acetate,0.26¡Á10£3 mol/L for ammonium persulfate, 600 g/L for modified starch and a reaction temperature of 70 deg. Mixture of the grafting copolymer and paper pulp is pressed into a board whose properties are improved in comparison with that for an adhesion agent of non-graftable modified starch.
Keywords: physically modified starch; vinyl acetate; graft copolymerization
