
Synthesis and Properties of Organobentonites

Abstract: The organobentonites are synthesized by means of the
ionexchange reaction between quaternary ammonium salts and sodium base bentonites. They
exhibit excellent dispersity and thixotropy in organic medium and can be obtained with
controlling reaction temperature (55deg¡«65deg) and reaction time (90 min)£¬using
sulphoacid as an activator, reacting between bentonite mortar treated by sodium salts and
quaternary ammoniumsalts before filtering, washing and drying reaction products. The work
provide useful information for processing products such as thickeners for paint, printing
ink, lubricating oil and oil mortar for well drilling.
