Abstract: A video-conference system is developed using a layered model. Object-oriented components and semantic relations among multimedia are specified. The model decomposes the multimedia data into a set of objects at the £É/£Ï level, processing level, transport level and network level, respectively, where different objects could be handled simultaneously. It is easy to implement the system by dataª²flow programming; it is adaptive to programming and networking environments. Based on this model, the parallelisms with various granularities could be exploited for realª²time applications. The program modules based on the model have a good reusability such that systems under different operational environments could be developed easily, and this facilitates intercommunications.
