
Approximate Minimum Variance Beamformer Suitable
for Code Division Multiple Access System

Abstract: A beamforming algorithm suitable for mitigation of multi-access
interference in code division multiple access (CDMA) system is presented. It has been
proved that the algorithm could obtain an optimal solution in the sense of minimum
variance when interference number approaches infinity. The simulation results show that
the algorithm approximates the Capon's minimum variance beamformer when the user number is
greater than the number of array elements. It avoids the calculation of the array response
covariance matrix and its inverse in addition to having the advantages of less computation
and being free of coherent problem.
