Abstract: An exponential approach for sliding  mode control is presented. A saturated controller is used limiting the maximum  control forces. Methods for determining switching functions are also presented. The full-state and static output feedbacd conditions are investigated. Numerical simulation is made to test the performance and robustness of the slidingª²modecontrol method, where application is made to the static output controller. Controleffectiveness of actuator saturation is demonstrated by numerical simulatoin. Peak-response is shown to be reduced under the same constraints as those on the classical LQR case. The proposed control strategies can be applied to seismically excited building structures.
