Abstract: By using a selfª²made dry sliding testing apparatus, the tribological characteristics are investigated for cast irons with three types of graphite morphologies against semi-metallic friction material. The frictional coefficient of the combined compacted graphite iron and semi-metallic material is found to be about the same as that of grey iron and higher than that of nodular graphite iron. It also possesses the lowest wear loss and is one of the best material to make brake disks.
