Abstract: Turbulent flow and heat transfer of the synthetic gas stream flowing downward in a quenched pipe are analyzed numerically. The gas tempertature distributions are obtained for different inlet velocity, pipe length and gasifying temperature. Numerical results showed that the synthetic gas temperature in quenched pipe of a coal gasified in Weihe Fertilizer Plant may be reduced from 1673K to 570K. Numerical results also revealed that the reduction of gasifying temperature and the outlet temperature of the gasifier chamber, or increase of the quenched pipe length can all profit the gas cooling in the quenched pipe.
