Abstract: Asbestos-free frictional material is developed by using phenolic resins modified with butadiene nitrile rubber as matrix while surface-treated glass fiber is used as reinforcement. Test result shows that all the properties, such as, friction coefficient and wear can meet the GB5763-86 requirement. Discussed are the influences of content, length and surface morphology of glass fiber in relation to friction and wear properties. The best mass content of fiber is 15%about 25%, and its length is 4 about 8mm. Glass fiber treated by heat, plasma and coupling reagent can decrease the wear ratio greatly.
