Abstract£ºBy analyzing the existing modeling techniques£¬ a novel method for concurrent design process based on unified modeling language (UML) and polychromatic sets (PS) theory is proposed£¬ and the link forms of concurrent design activities£¬the basic model primitives and basic model constructs of UML activity diagram are analyzed£¬where the node link relations and basic model constructs of UML activity diagram are formalized in PS£®The UML model of featureª²based part design and process planning is established and mapped into PS contour matrix£®Based on PS contour matrix£¬the model reduction£¬ path search and time consumption of concurrent design process are analyzed quantitatively£® The proposed method is an objectª²oriented method for nonª²specialists to understand and accept£®A formal model for concurrent design process is established and the activities are evaluated quantitatively to find the key factors affecting the whole process to guide organizing and implementing of concurrent design£®
