Abstract: The numerical calculation of gas flow in high temperature ceramic filters was performed by using the FLUENT computational fluid dynamics software. The gas flow and pressure fields inside the tangential flow vessel and radial flow vessel were obtained. The result shows that the complicated flow system including sudden-changed cross-section and porous media, with suitable simulation of computational zones and generation of grid, can be resolved by FLUENT code satisfactorily. The flow loss in ceramic filters mainly occurs in the porous media, and decreasing of the flow loss in the porous media is the key to decreasing of the flow loss. When gas flows into the vessel radially, the impact of the gas flow to the ceramic filters is large. When gas flows into the vessel tangentially, the velocity near the vessel wall is large and the impact to the filers is small. The pressure drop is smaller in tangential flow vessel than in radial flow vessel. For protecting the filters and reducing pressure drop, the tangential flow vessel is more suitable than radial flow vessel.
