Abstract: A three-phase hybrid power filter composed of a passive filter and an active power filter, and the corresponding basic principles are introduced. To patch up the drawback of traditional control method, a new combined control method is proposed, where the load harmonic current and source harmonic current are detected simultaneously and the control ratios KL and KS can be controlled separately. By controlling KL the filtering performance of the hybrid filter can be controlled, and by controlling KS the resonance resisting performance of the hybrid filter can be controlled. The control method is simulated with MATLAB, and a prototype is built to verify the performance. Both the simulated and experimental results indicate that the source harmonic current is remarkably reduced, e.g., the dominated 5th order harmonic is reduced to about 1/10.
