Temperature Field and Thermal Distortion Field of Nd:YVO4Crystal with Double-Ends Pumping

Abstract:In order to research the thermal effect problem incurred by diode lasers double-end pumped laser crystal, a thermal model of axially heated cylindrical laser crystal with a fixed boundary temperature was built. Based on the heat conduct equation, the general solutions of laser crystal temperature field and pump-face thermal distortion field were obtained by the semi-analytical solution. Some factors, such as pump power, pump spot size and crystal Ndª²ion doped quality index, which influence on the crystal temperature field and pump-face thermal distortion field, were analyzed. The result shows that when increasing the pump powers, reducing the size of pump spot and adding Ndª²ion doped quality index, the temperature raise and the thermal distortion of pump-face will all be increased. With the same pump conditions, the medial section temperature raise of 0.5%(mass fraction) Ndª²ion doped neodymium-doped yttrium orthovanadate crystal is higher than other doped quality index.
