Novel Method for Evaluating Dynamic False Contour of Motion Image in Alternating Current Plasma Display Panel

Abstract:According to the generating mechanism of dynamic false contour in alternating current plasma display panels (AC PDP),a motion image brightness perception model,which coincides with eyeª²tracing integration effect and subfield partition in AC PDP,was established,and a novel method for evaluating the dynamic false contour based on this model was proposed.In the evaluating method,two subfield integration vectors for each pixel in two adjacent fields were calculated according to the image moving speed and the established motion image brightness model.The two vectors were integrated over one field time through dynamic integration to derive the dynamic false contours.The evaluation method coincides with both of the eye-tracing integration effect and the characteristics of subfield driving method.The simulation results agree with those obtained by other methods for different image moving speed and different subfield coding.This method can exactly describe the influence of the image moving speed and subfield coding on the dynamic false contour,and can be applied to the optimization of the subfield coding in AC PDP.
