Abstract: A novel dynamic model of the operating mechanisms of low-voltage molded case circuit breaker is set up by adopting automatic dynamic analysis of mechanical system£¨ADAMS£©,a software package based on the theory of multi-body dynamics. The model is confirmed by experiments on the mechanical performance of the tested circuit breakers, which also paves the way to the further study on the impact of the electrodynamic repulsion force on the circuit breaker and the optimization of the mechanical design. To analyze the influence of the electrodynamic force on the breaking process of the circuit breaker under the condition of the anticipated 10 kA peak current, the electrodynamic force is calculated with the Holm formula and 3-D finite element analysis software ANSYS, consequently the electromechanical coupling equations were solved. The operating time is shortened about 2 ms by taking the electrodynamic repulsion force into account.
