Abstract: Based on the unified strength theory (UST) and cylindrical cavity expansion theory, the relationship of cavity expansion pressure and cavity expansion velocity of concrete target with penetration of projectile at high velocity was obtained. The analytical equation of penetration depth was presented and the penetration depth of long rods when impacting concrete target at 400~1 100 m/s was calculated. The comparison shows that the calculation result is in good agreement with the test data. Moreover, the coefficient b of the UST,the shape of the projectile nose, and the mass of projectile have influences on the penetration depth. The penetration depth is large when b=0 and is small when b=1,and it becomes greater with the increasing of the mass and the sharpness of the projectile nose.
