| Tool Path Generation for 4-Axis Numerical
Control Machining of Arbitrary Surface Blades Wu Baohai,Wang Shangjin (School of Energy and Power Engineering,Xi'an Jiaotong University,Xi'an 710049,China) Abstract:An effective machining method was proposed for machining arbitrary surface blades using 4-axis numerical control(NC)machines. For spindle-tilting type 4-axis NC machines, the functional relation between the inclination angle and tilt angle was established to ensure that the tool axis is parallel to the swing plane during the entire machining process.A flat-end cutter was used, its paths were generated based on the constant scallop height principle and machining strips were enlarged by adjusting inclination angle. The method improved the cutting efficiency of 4-axis machining and enabled to transfer the tool path planning methods of 5-axis machining to 4-axis machining.
