Emissions and Performances of a Diesel Engine Operating on
Quasi-Homogeneous Charge Compression Ignition Mode at Low Loads Su Ling,Li Wei,Zhong Hui,Zhou Longbao (School of Energy and Power Engineering,Xi'an Jiaotong University,Xi'an 710049,China) Abstract:Experimental studies were carried out on a compressed natural gas (CNG)/diesel engine to investigate the effects of the amount of pilot fuel and inlet throttling on the thermal efficiency and emissions of the engine operating on quasi-homogeneous charge compression ignition(QHCCI) mode at low loads. The results show that increasing the quantity of pilot fuel can simultaneously reduce the emissions and increase the thermal efficiency of the engine at low loads, and inlet throttling can also decrease the emissions effectively with only a little penalty on the thermal efficiency. Moreover, the adoption of both of them are more effective to reduce the emissions of the engine at low loads.
