New Equivalent Circuit Model for Alternating Current Plasma Display Panel

Abstract:Based on the V-I characteristics of gas discharge and the discharge cell structure of the alternating current plasma display panel (AC PDP), a new equivalent circuit model for the AC PDP is developed. In this model, the "ON" and "OFF" states of discharge cells are represented by a voltage controlled switch. The electrical characteristic of gas discharge cells, the wall voltage evolution and the memory function can be interpreted by the model. The Q-V characteristic curve of the equivalent circuit model is obtained by PSpice simulation. The Q-V characteristic curve of the test PDP panel is obtained by the experimental measurement. It demonstrates that the simulation results coincide with the experimental ones very well. This model can be used to investigate the driving waveforms for AC PDP.
