Reliability Design of the High Voltage XLPE Cables Insulation Structure

Abstract:The stress-strength interference model in the reliability theory is applied to designing the thickness of the XLPE cables insulation, and the reliability degree of XLPE cables insulation is calculated by considering the interference between the probability distribution of insulation strength and the distribution of the voltage applied to the insulation. The thickness of the 220 kV XLPE cables insulation is reduced from 27 mm to 23 mm according to reliability design method. The calculation results also indicate that the reduction of the standard deviation of the insulation thickness distribution during the production of the cables can increase the insulation reliability degree.
