Simulative Study of the Nozzle Ablation Characteristics
in HighVoltage SF6 Circuit Breaker

Abstract:A theoretical model of the nozzle ablation is proposed on the basis of analysis of nozzle materials and arc energy conversion. According to the simalation results, adding 1~5 percent filler into main material can increase the arc energy absorped by the nozzle, and the nozzle characteristic against the ablation can be improved efficiently, when the filler grain is larger than 10 micron, the starting ablation time can be prolonged. The research provides a theoretical basis for increasing the behavior of the nozzle against the arc ablation and prolonging the lifetime of the SF6 circuit breaker.
