Study of a Single-Image File System for a Campus-Wide Metacomputer

Abstract:For mapping wide area resources to a singleimage virtual machine,a technique supporting the implementation of a single-image file system(WSIFS) based on distributed objects is introduced into a campus metacomputer. A distributed object model is created as a groundwork of WSIFS,and several definitions about context object and file object are also given. The framework of WSIFS and its implementation are discussed in detail,and the function or performance of some commands supporting WSIFS is experimented. This single-image file system maps all resources of the metacomputer into a virtual directory system,provides dependable, consistent and pervasive access to high-end computational resources,and gives users some practicable operational tools and commands. Using WSIFS,manipulation of metacomputer becomes simple and easy.
