Application and Research on Oil Viscosity Analysis Based on a New Quartz
Crystal Microbalanc Sensor

Abstract:A new approach using quartz crystal microbalance (QCM) sensor
to monitor oil viscosity on-line is developed. The measuring principle of quartz crystal
microbalance sensor used in the viscosity measurement of oil is given. To satisfy for oil
environment, the sensor detector and oscillator circuit is developed. The test results
show that the frequency shifts of sensor are linearly dependent on the square root of
viscosity. The method of viscosity monitoring based on microbalance sensor is very
sensible and can be used in on-line oil viscosity analysis.
