Abstract:A extracting and separating method(ESM)type gas-liquid two-phase
flow meter was proposed and tested in an air-water two-phase flow loop.By using a
rotational drum distributor, a fraction (about 20%) of the two-phase mixture was
proportionally extracted and conducted to a small compact separator which separate the
mixture into single phase gas and liquid. Conventional flowmeters were employed to
meter the separated gas and liquid respectively. The total flow rates of each phase were
then determined according to these metered values and the proportionali-ties (extraction
ratios). After the separated gas and liquid had been metered they were returned to the
main stream again. Because only a small portion of the total flow is extracted the
separator can be reduced in size greatly compard to the conventional separation method.
Experiments confirmed that the extraction ratio is equal to the ratio of extraction
channel number to the total flow channel number inside the drum and independent of flow
patterns. The average error of flow rates measurement was less than 5%.
