Artificial Intelligence Applications in Instrumentation and Measurement

Abstract: Recent development in instrumentation and measurement (I&M) research and applications is the combination of I&M with computer and communication technologies, such as field bus and virtual instruments. This provides an excellent platform for artificial intelligence (AI) adopted in I&M. The essential ideas and important methods relevant to artificial neural network (ANN) and fuzzy logic are discussed. Several successful cases applying ANN and fuzzy logic to I&M related to sensor enhancement, data fusion, system identification and control are reviewed. And the attractive advantage and feasible performance of ANN and fuzzy logic are thus illustrated. Finally, a perspective of the AI for I&M application is presented.
