Abstract: A new type of organic/inorganic hybrid materials was prepared
by solgel process through the hydrolysis and polycondensation of tetramethoxy-silicane
(TMOS) and gamma-amin-opropylmethyldimethoxy silane (APMDMOS) as precursors. The effects
of reaction system’s pH, reaction temperature, the volume ratio of water to precursors,
and TMOS content on the gelation time and optical property of the hybrid materials were
investigated in detail. The forma-tion of silica gel materials and the hybrid materials
has been confirmed by Fourier transform infrared. The results show that the gelation time
and visible light transmittance of the above-mentioned systems decrease as the TMOS
content, reaction temperature and the density of precursors increase. The visible light
transmittance and the gelation time of the systems exhibit a maximum value as pH
increases.
