Abstract: Based on the analysis of characteristic of the basin type and
vertical falling film solar desalination units and the theory of horizontal tube falling
film evaporation, aiming at the shortcomings of previous units, a closed circulation solar
desalination unit with horizontal tube falling film evaporation was designed and
experimented under the conditions
of different operating parameter, and the influence factors on performance of unit were
also analyzed. Experimental results indicate that the freshwater yield is about 2~2.5
times higher than the singlestage basin solar distiller when the supplied energy is the
same. It's favorite to increase operating temperature for improving freshwater yield and
freshwater yield per unit energy consumption. The flow rate of hot water of 300~600 kg/h
and the feedstock of 8~15 kg/h can increase the freshwater yield and improve the
performance of unit.
