
Information Rate, Service Quality and System Capacity of Wideband
Code Division Multiple Access Systems

Abstract: Starting from the sufficient and necessary condition of
existence of solution for power assignment in a single cell wideband code division
multiple access (WCDMA) system, the quantity relations among the information rate, the
capacity and the quality of service(QoS) are acquired. The capacities of constant bit
rate(CBR) traffics and variable bit rate(VBR) traffics can be improved through the change
of the information rate of VBR traffics. The information rate of VBR traffics can be
increased through the change of QoS of the unspecified bit rate(UBR) traffics. The
numerical results show that the information rate, QoS, and system capacity are
exchangeable. These make the setting of these crucial parameters very flexible and, in
turn, result in higher resource utlization and better system performance.
