Abstract: Al/(PSt/PBA),Zn/(Pst/PBA)and Ni/(PSt/PBA) metal core/high
polymer coating micronpheres compounded suspensions of the Electrortheological fluids
(ERF) are prepared by emulsion polymerization. The surface of Al and Zn and Ni particles
must be modiffied before emulsion polymerization. The performance of the ERF was tested.
The results show that the shearstrength is improved over 2 kPa,the average electric
field intersity is2.5 kV/mm,the deposit time can be improved over two weeks. The metal
core/high polymer coating compounded particles are promising ERF compounded suspensions
material.
