Abstract:A three-dimensional surface charge simulation method is improved
for effective computation of stray capacitance of electric apparatus. In this method, each
curved surface on which electric charges are distributed is divided into a number of
curved surface elementsinstead of planar elements. The surface shape of each element is
approximated by using a quadratic formula. The use of many curved surface elements
provides a good approximation of the power equipment. As an example, the capacitance of a
shielding ring against ground is calculated using this method. The computed
capacitancevalues agree well with the measured data with relative error up to two percent.
