Abstract: The damping of paper vibrating in air is studied by means of
vibration experiment. Based on the experiment, a new method and steps are presented to
construct the damping matrix in the finite element method a nalysis of paper's dynamic
response. With the constructed damping matrix, the dynamic response of cantilever paper
due to gravity loading is analyzed. The calculated result is compared with test data and
the agreement is very good. It is proved that the damping matrix constructed can truly
describe the paper's damping property.
