Algorithm for Rapid Slicing Based on the Information Inheriting

Abstract: The advantage and disadvantage of existing slicing algorithms for stereolithography model are analyzed, and an algorithm based on the information inheriting is developed to enhance the speed of slicing process. In the algorithm, a slicing relation matrix is established according to the minimum z coordinates of a triangular facet, and the efficiency in searching intersecting facets is highly improved by using the matrix, leading to the increase in the efficiency of the slicing algorithm. The algorithm not only absorbs the merits of the existing slicing algorithms, but also inherits and makes full use of the geometrical adjacency relationship in layer I-1 when calculating the contour of layer ¢ñ. Practical applications show that the approach is efficient, stable and reliable.
