New Improvement of the SIMPLE Algorithm

Abstract: A new improvement of the SIMPLE algorithm has been proposed. In this improved algorithm (MSIMPLE), consistency of velocity correction equation was considered by using the method adopted in the SIMPLEC algorithm, while the pressure field was determined by the way adopted in the SIMPLER algorithm. Comparisons between MSIMPLE and SIMPLE, SIMPLEC, SIMPLER algorithms were conducted by calculating two typical flow and heat transfer problems (flow in a twoª²dimensional axisymmetric sudden expansion, natural convection in a square cavity). The results of comparison indicated that the new algorithm hasbetter convergence characteristics and can speed up the solution procedure.
