Abstract: The method originally developed for the axial rotor/stator interaction unsteady flow was modified and extended to the centrifugal turbomachinery. The Couette flow which has an accurate analytical solution was utilized to verify the above method. The two-dimensional unsteady rotor/stator interaction of a centrifugal fan with different number of blades and vanes was then calculated and analyzed under various flow rates. The results demonstrated that the modified method can well predict the complex unsteady inte raction flow in the centrifugal turbomachinery stages. The perdicted results also can provide useful information for the matching between the impeller and vane diffuser in design.
