Comprehensive Method for Channel Identification and Symbol Synchronization in Divided Multi-Tone Systems

Abstract: After analysis of the relationship between the channel identification and symbol synchronization in divided multi-tone(DMT) systems, a comprehensive method is presented. Using power decision criterion, the comprehensive method can get frequency response, impulse response of the channel and also correct symbol boundary at the same time. Applications of this approach in ADSL systems show a 10dB improvement in the geometrical signal-to-noise ratio (GSNR) compared to previous methods while the complexity of its algorithm is somewhat reduced.
