Abstract: A new application of maximal-ratio-combination to the power control of wideband code division multiple access(WCDMA) systems is presented. It dynamically selects some users and decodes their signal by all the receivers in the network. By satisfying the requirement of average signal-to-interference ratio, the transmitter's power was derived by iteration, and the upper bound of system capacity was also derived. The main advantage of the algorithm is to distribute traffic from heavy loaded cells to its surrounding cells while not too complex for practical system. It is therefore flexible, and can increase the overall system capacity. This algorithm is a trade-off between capacity and system complexity.
