Abstract: A predictive power control algorithm for the uplink transmission in wideband code division multiple access (WCDMA) systems is presented. Using the optimal linear prediction, the interference to the desired user for the future instant is estimated from current and past interference. The result is then used to derive the optimum power levels of the mobile transmitters in the system. It makes the signal-to-interference ratio (SIR) more close to its minimum required level. Simulation results show that the algorithm can yield not only higher control precision, fast convergence speed, and better system stability, but also lower drop-off probability and increased system capacity compared to existing schemes.
